towards a village in the rear
four artellerimen were walking 
coverd with dust from ruffled hair 
to dusty boots and slowly walking

looking at the immensity
of fla-atness talking of the past
and hardly turning round to see 
where a shell had coughed from last

all four class of nineteensixteen 
reminiscing not prophesying 
prolonging the ascetic life
of those who are reharsing dying
