Outside my window I saw two doves
Wrapped up in filthy and true love
The walls are blushing landlord pink
The dishes pile up, my heart sinks

It’s become my second nature
To wander through the pet store
And stare into the sideways gaze of a lizard
Doesn’t always make me feel better
Just less alone
 
Found the drum machine I traded
For a heart shaped duct tape wallet
30 years and I’ve never played it
The acid’s leaked— am I too late?

I wander through the pet store
Asking, “What is my true nature?”
Can I take care of anything
Or anyone I’m eyeing?
Don’t wanna take you home
Just because I’m trying
To be less alone
