Here in the corner of this restaurant
You weren't looking up as I talked
I'll pretend that I'm also on my phone

I hoped to catch your eye
Tried not to feel mortified
We're merely inches apart
But there's so much distance

And all the writing's on the walls
On the outside looking in
It's like you never tried at all
If I have to spell out what I mean
Then it just wouldn't be your call
Needed you to be on my team
Instead you made me feel so small

I've stepped into a foriegn land
Speaking a language I don't understand
You say everything with ambiguity
Didn't know you got into photography

It's a lovely photograph
But I can't find the strength to laugh
We've mastered the art
Of creating resistance
