Close the curtains
Switch off all the alarms

Just pause for a moment
While we play her favourite songs

Her daughter tells her, how much she’s loved
From a faraway phone

Stand right beside her
and hold her hand 
while the machine is withdrawn

Five or six minutes later
Another life is lost

The screen has flat-lined
Move the phone from her ear
And talk to the family, to say
