Caffeinated

I work in this coffee shop, 
This strangely spacious coffee shop in new york
Morning to late afternoon
And not many people like their job at my age
 But thank god, it's not retail  
That'd be a different tune

Yeah, I get it here  I make it work for me
I imagine I'm a superhero serving the community
Yeah, I know it clear  provide the cure and spill the tea
With some regulars the boundaries blur, 
Like cheaper therapy 

It's a perfect place to get to know somebody
Somebody before their first sip
Creamy, sweet, bitter, black and brew
A coffee order helps me to
Understand a little more 
Another story to explore
And we all can be complicated
So, I keep it all caffeinated

Sent the last guy running, 
Back to square one 
Are you almost done?

I'm gonna stay another hour and watch the fun

It's amusing, all this consuming coffee
You'd think I would switch it up!
Another dark roast

I know I tend to romanticize some things
As your friendly neighborhood barista 
Caped in apron strings

Maybe one day, when I look back, I'll clearly see 
How this spot backdrops the plot 
And it's a lot of you and me

Not pushing labels, just a clue

Feelings change, but some things stick
