I Ride Alone

I am tired but I cannot sleep
The road I ride is cold and deep
My horse don't judge, he just obeys
We chase the ghosts of better days
I whisper prayers to a silent sky
Though I lost my faith when my soul ran dry
The stars don't answer, the wind just moans
And I carry my sins like weathered stones
I ride alone, through dust and flame
No home behind, no one to blame
My only friend's got four worn shoes
And eyes that know what I've been through
The towns I pass don't call my name
Just empty doors and window panes
I see her face in every storm
But love like that don't keep you warm
The saddle creaks like a dying hymn
And every mile feels paper-thin
I pray to God though I know
