Forever Lost

Streetlights bleedin' through the blinds again
Another dawn, the same old fight within
These hands, they've done what they were forced to do
Crossed lines I swore I'd never walk on through
The weight of it, a constant, crushing tide
Swallowing the remnants of my pride
Survival's got a hungry, gnawing need
It takes and takes, plants a desperate seed
Borrowed dimes that turns us to tears

This roof above, kept with a heavy cost
Leaving pieces of myself forever lost
The silence bites when all the lights are dead,
A heavy blanket on the empty bed.
I see their faces, trusting and so small,
And know I'd face a storm to keep them all.
These bills pile up, a pressure on the wall,
Just buying precious, fleeting moments just before the fall.
