Ancient History

Growing up 
All we knew was bad
With a handful friends
What a life we had 

Now that there's only
Three of us left 
I laugh to my self
Over the damage we left 

16 years old 
My first broken nose
Listening to Blitz in a convertible 
With Some blood on my clothes 

I may never feel
That same breeze again
First time in my life
I knew I had friends 

We were kids
Always did as we please 
Welcoming the sword 
Living life with no guarantees 

Ancient history
Not many of us left 
I swallow hard 
When I feel that void in my chest 

Although some
Have floated to sea
I promise to be here
If they want to find out about me 

It all ancient history
But man am I glad you were with me 

Wars won
With a hammer and pipe 
And a couple ski masks 
When the timing is just right 

Remember that bat that almost hit me?
We were joking about what our lives will be like when we're 50!

Seems so distant
Those stories I hear 
Of teenage scamps 
Living life with no fear 

All the ghosts still haunt me 
I guess that's my penance
For living life like a menace
