Oh, I was just a lad so young, 
When the navy's tune I sung,
They promised me the world so wide, 
But all I found was pain and pride.
The captain's word was law and chain, 
And every day brought naught but strain, 
But in my heart, a yearning grew,
For hills of green and skies so blue.

A pirates life is what we'll find with a heave and a hey and a ho

The days were long, the nights so cold, 
With tales of glory often told,
But all I saw was death and blood, 
And good men thrown into the flood. 
I longed to leave this cursed life, 
Away from war, away from strife,
The hills of home called out to me, 
To break my chains and set me free.

I left behind the navy's woe,

I sail beneath the open skies.
